Local park saved by the community

The Scout Road Community Group will shortly be the owners of Scout Road Park thanks to a deal with Mytholmroyd Methodist church to save the playing field and children's playground from any future development.

The church council reached its decision at a special meeting on Friday 22nd October.

In less than three months of fundraising the group has raised the money needed to purchase the land.

Gayle Appleyard, chair of the Scout Road group said: "This is excellent news for the community. Everyone has been so supportive and we are all really proud of what we have achieved in such a short time."

"Anyone else wishing to donate is still welcome. This is the beginning of a long term community partnership and we hope to start making improvements as soon as the land is ours."

Over the next few weeks the group will contact those who pledged their help and financial support so they can finalise the deal with the church.

Some of the money required to buy the land will be raised through an innovative partnership with Calderdale Credit Union and the newly established Scout Road Community Co-operative. The Co-operative is open to anyone interested in buying their own share in the park.

Anybody interested in joining the co-operative or making a donation should contact: Gayle Appleyard on 885781
